Biographical history
William Alexander Marjerrison was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on February 12, 1922 to Malcolm Gordon and Kathleen Annie Minnie Marjerrison. He had three siblings: Gordon, Jean and Phyllis. Marjerrison was educated in Aird, Wartime, and Regina. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served overseas as a flight lieutenant from 1943 to 1945. After the War, Marjerrison returned to the Greenan, Saskatchewan district, near Elrose, where he farmed.
Marjerrison served as a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Fairview No. 258 (1953-1965) and the Rural Municipality of Monet No. 257 (1966-1973). He was a delegate to the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (1962 to 1985) representing sub-district 2 of District 11. Marjerrison was a charter and executive member of the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society and a member of the Saskatoon Archaeological Society. He held membership in the Elrose Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion; was involved with the United Church; and served on the board of directors of the Elrose Golden Years Lodge.
Marjerrison died in Saskatoon on February 5, 1991. He was buried in the Greenan Cemetery. He did not marry or have children.
Custodial history
Jean Goldie, sister of William A. Marjerrison, donated some of these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives in one accession in 1991: R91-319 (November 28, 1991).
Scope and content
This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by William A. Marjerrison of the Elrose, Saskatchewan district. The records relate mainly to Marjerrison's activities as a farmer; municipal official; member of the United Church of Canada and delegate to the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. The fonds also includes records relating to Marjerrison's interest in agriculture, freemasonry, archaeology, and local history.
The types of records included are correspondence; newsletters; permit books; financial records, including farm account books; newspaper clippings; annual reports; publications; local history books; photographs; and maps.
No series assignment has been applied to the records in this fonds.
