Saskatchewan Historical Society fonds

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used mainly by the secretary of the Saskatchewan Historical Society during its operation in Regina, Saskatchewan. The fonds contains the administrative records of the Society along with the records relating to the history of the province from the mid 19th century to 1945 compiled and collected by the Society in fulfillment of its mandate.

The types of records included are secretary's annual reports; correspondence; minutes; financial statements; a constitution; an annual meeting programme; newspaper clippings; personal narratives; essays; obituaries; biographical sketches; photographs; articles and speeches.

No series assignment was applied to the records in this fonds.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by John Archer and pertain to activities during the course of his personal life; his research interests and writing projects (his own and those on which he gave advice, made a contribution, or reviewed); his speaking engagements; his involvement in non-governmental organizations and institutions; his appointments on boards and commissions at the local, provincial, regional or national level; his education; and his employment history - in particular his career as a teacher/professor.

The types of records include correspondence, published and unpublished manuscripts, programmes, invitations, clippings and articles, photographs, reports and studies, research materials, subject files, speeches, appointment books, mailing lists, policies and procedures, committee minutes and transcripts, publications, financial reports, and proposals.

The records described in 1985 in old guide GR 358 were listed under forty-seven headings of identification and arrangement.

The accrual to the fonds described in 2006 has been divided into four series: Personal; Subject Files; Organizations; and Appointments, Boards and Commissions.

Angus McKay was born in 1858 and died in 1952.

Compilation of former pamphlet and clipping collections in the Regina office of the Saskatchewan Archives Board.

Who's Who Classified Business Directory for Regina for 1939 and Reference Handbook, Regina City, 1949 are located in file 27. File 56 contains a history of Luther College in Regina from 1955. File 27 contains publications entitled Regina Directory for 1885; and Regina Leader-Post 1939 "Who's Who" Classified Business Directory. File 49 includes the January 1915 issue of a publication entitled Construction featuring Regina. File 236 relates to the MacDonald Memorial Fund.

Files 70, 71 and 72 deal with Pile O'Bones (Regina). File 50 contains The On to Ottawa Trek, by Victor Hoar. File 61 includes an article by Jack Fairley on Richard Henry Williams entitled The Story of a Pioneer (Christmas in Regina, 1919, pg. 6).

Includes Order-in-Council No. 2778 of December 29, 1900 approving report, evidence and cash statements submitted by the townsite commissioners appointed by Order-in-Council No. 1527 of June 19, 1900. 142 p.

File 7b includes a history of the Regina Public Library from 1909 to 1959 by Jessie R. Bothwell. File 71.23 includes Pioneers! O Pioneers! by Jessie R. Bothwell. File 45 includes an article by Bothwell in 1954 entitled High diplomacy in a jury regarding the suit for libel against Nicholas Flood Davin by C.J. Atkinson in July 1890. File 71.01 relates to Women's Canadian Club historical first prize-winning essay in Regina, 1927. File 67 includes a publication entitled Saskatchewan's Pioneer Streetcars: The Story of the Regina Municipal Railway, 1971. File 27 includes a publication entitled Lang's Guide to Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan, 1912.

File 25h includes historical information regarding the organization, erection and proposed financing of Wascana Badminton Club (later in 1934 changed to Wascana Winter Club with addition of skating facilities).

File 20 includes a booklet on Saint Basil the Great Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Regina, Saskatchewan compiled in 1975 to commemorate the parish's 50th anniversary. The booklet is mainly written in Ukrainian with some English and was edited by Bohdan Kazymyra, F. Nakonechny and E. Shtendera. 302 p.

Includes contracts and specifications for the construction of the sewage disposal works and storm water and sanitary trunk serews and supplying of field boulders for use in percolating filters, 1910. Includes publication issued by the Regina Committee for Rail Passenger Service, April 1976, that explains the aims, activities and views of the Committee regarding rail passenger service in Canada, Saskatchewan and Regina.

Includes articles written by May Neal and published in The Leader-Post, Regina and a publication edited by May Neal entitled 50 Years of Progress: Regina, Queen City of the Plains, 1903-1953 (file 71.39). May Neal (née Whiteford) was married to W.F. Neal.

File 45 includes an article by Zachary M. Hamilton entitled Regina pioneers on parade at coronation of Queen Victoria (The Leader-Post, Regina, May 11, 1937) that includes references to T.M. Crapper.

Includes item written by Marguerite E. Robinson entitled Civic politics in Regina, Saskatchewan: A Resume of the development of the slate system.

File 49 includes a photograph of the exterior view of J.M. Young's bungalow in Regina, Saskatchewan. Storey + Van Egmond architects. The photograph was copied from Construction Magazine, Volume 8, No. 1, 1915.

Rugglas Dunning Brooks biographical sketch

Brief biographical sketch of Rugglas Dunning Brooks compiled by his son, Kenneth R. Brooks. Rugglas Brooks was a businessman who established various companies in the La Ronge district, including the Brooks Fish Company, Brooks Airways and Brooks Construction Company.
