Title notes

  • Source of title proper: Title taken from caption appearing above and below image in Canadian Illustrated News, volume XI, number 21, p. 324.
  • Attributions and conjectures: Attributed to be a sketch by Henri Julien
  • Attributions and conjectures: As of December 2019, no place named Dead Horse Valley was found in searches of Natural Resources Canada's Geographic Names Data Base (CGNDB), Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, Geonames.org or US National Geospatial Intelligence Agency GeoNames. However, based upon the topography and the indication that it depicts the southern Alberta badlands, it is possible that this place name is a reference to the place previously officially known as Deadhorse Coulee, now known as Black Coulee.
