Biographical history
Gilbert Johnson was born in the Marchwell, North-West Territories (now known as Saskatchewan) district on February 8, 1893 to Charles and Rasmine Johnson. He farmed, then sold insurance in the Melville/Brewer area prior to being employed by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a grain buyer in 1931. Johnson moved to Marchwell in 1932 and continued to work for the Pool until his retirement in 1957. In 1979, Johnson moved to Langenburg and resided there until his death in June 1985.
Johnson was active in the Marchwell and Langenburg communities and had a special interest in Saskatchewan's local history. He wrote and compiled numerous histories, many of which were published in Saskatchewan History.
Johnson and his wife, Pauline Novikoff, had one son: Boris, born in 1933.
