The fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by Alexander Morris during his political career. The fonds includes correspondence during the period that Morris served as Minister of Inland Revenue (1869-1872); Chief Justice of Manitoba (1872); Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba and Keewatin (1872-1877); and Lieutenant-Governor of the North-West Territories (1872-1876).

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by Hillyard Mitchell of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan relating mainly to his activities as a general merchant; director of several local companies, including the Duck Lake Milling Co.; member of the Legislative Assembly of the North-West Territories; and member of the Executive Council of the North-West Territories.

The fonds includes records created, accumulated and used by Hillyard Mitchell and other employees in the operation of general stores in Prince Albert and Duck Lake. Mitchell was involved in the stores as a general manager, partner in the firm William Stobart & Co. and sole proprietor. The types of corporate records included are: letter books; journals; ledgers; cash books; invoices; correspondence; account statements and contracts. Includes records relating to claims and losses incurred by Mitchell during the North-West Rebellion in 1885.

A small volume of Mitchell's personal records, including his birth certificate, will, financial records and correspondence, is included.
