Records created, accumulated and used by Jacob Miller M.S.M. of Neudorf, Saskatchewan (January 19, 1891 - October 10, 1963) relating to his service with the 45th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Army from 1914 to 1919, during the First World War. Included are photocopies and digital scans of: correspondence; attestation papers; diary entries; photographs; a newspaper clipping; biographical sketches for local history books; and Miller's memoir entitled, "Beyond My Grasp". During his service in the Great War, Miller was posted to the First Canadian Mounted Rifles and took part in battles at Ypres, Somme, Cambrai, Monchy, Passchendale, Amiens, Hill 70, and Vimy Ridge. For his service, Miller was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. A small volume of the records also pertains to Miller's career, first as an employee of the Canadian Pacific Railway and then as postmaster for Neudorf, and to his marriage to Christina (Litzenberger) Miller.
