Historia biográfica

Myles Curtis Kinney was born on April 20, 1914 at Tyvan, Saskatchewan. He received his primary and secondary education in Tyvan and attended the Provincial Normal School in Regina from 1933 to 1934. Kinney taught in rural Saskatchewan before enlisting in the Second World War. He served four years with the Canadian Army, including service in Northwest Europe as a troop commander in 8 Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment (14 Canadian Hussars).

Following the War, Kinney studied at university in England and attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees in 1948. He then moved to Regina, where he worked as a teacher and principal with the Regina Public School Board until his retirement in 1975.

Myles Kinney died in Regina on February 3, 1993.

Myles Kinney married Pearl Burgess in 1945. They had one child: Cheryl.

The Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives purchased some of these records in 1987. The records were assigned accession number R87-133 (March 13, 1987).

Alcance y contenido

This collection consists mainly of materials collected by Myles C. Kinney relating to his interest in genealogy and the history of the Tyvan, Saskatchewan district.

The collection includes photographs of the Tyvan district and residents; a photocopied postcard addressed to Monsieur Georges de Savage, a Tyvan resident; reminiscences of Tyvan residents Mary Houston and Mrs. William G. Rapeer; a 1919 fire insurance plan of Tyvan; a photocopied letter to Kinney from R.L.N. McNaughton and accompanying material relating to the history of Tyvan; a local history of Tyvan published in 1986 by Myles C. Kinney; and the May 24 and July 12, 1907 editions of the Tyvan Signal. The collection also includes a 1934 yearbook of the Provincial Normal School in Regina.
