Edwin Meese was born December 2, 1931 in Oakland, California. Meese worked for California Governor Ronald Reagan as legal affairs secretary from 1967 to 1968 and as executive assistant and chief of staff to Governor Reagan from 1969 to 1974. During Reagan's first term as President of the United States, he would serve as Counselor to the President from 1981 to 1985, and in Reagan's second term Meese became United States Attorney General.
