History
James (Jim) Lyttle was born in County Down, Ireland in 1905; while still a child, Lyttle's family moved to the Earl Grey, Saskatchewan district to begin farming. Lyttle joined the Regina Police Service when he was twenty-one (21) on November 6, 1926. He was promoted to the rank of patrol sergeant in 1941, night inspector in 1950, and then after twenty-seven (27) years with the Regina Police, Lyttle was named deputy chief of police in March 1953. Upon his retirement from the Regina Police service in October 1964, he moved with his wife to Victoria, British Columbia.
In addition to his work with the police, Lyttle was an amateur wrestler, competing in several meets and national competitions, often under the banner of the Regina Police Services. In 1933 he became the amateur heavyweight wrestling champion of Canada, and on four other occasions he was runner-up.
Lyttle died on June 25, 1972 in Victoria, leaving behind his wife Alice McRae Lyttle as well as a son (Robert) and daughter (Florence).
