History

Born in Yorkshire, England, H.C. Lawson moved to Balgonie, Saskatchewan in 1886 and soon started a ranch in the Qu'Appelle Valley. Lawson moved to Regina in the early 1900s where in addition to working at the banking firm of Lejeune, Smith and Co., he served as secretary and president of the board of trade and secretary of the Agricultural Association of Regina District. He then managed the farm of Gerald and Bernard Spring-Rice near Pense, worked on the Bell farm near Indian Head, and throughout this time he organized horse races. In 1920 he returned to his own ranch where he raised shorthorn cattle.

At the time of his death in 1940 at the age of 75, he left behind a wife (Margaret Winnifred), three sisters, and two brothers.
