Hiebert was a Mennonite Brethren pastor who practised his ministry in the Saskatchewan communities of Langham, Hepburn, Dalmeny, Waldheim, and Herbert; in Winnipeg; in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Kansas, and California; in Paraquay; and in Germany.
