Biografie
James Austin Brown was born around 1920 in Regina, Saskatchewan to John Wilfred and Florence (nee Austin) Brown. He received his primary and secondary education in Regina.
After serving five years with the Canadian Army in the Second World War, Brown worked in various occupations in Regina and London, Ontario: office manager (1950-1955), general manager (1955-1964), and secretary-treasurer (1957-1964) for Group Medical Services; administrative assistant and secretary to the executive director of the Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Commission (1964-1967); administrator at London Public Library and Art Museum in London, Ontario (1967-1969); administrative assistant, University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus (1969-1974); and assistant registrar, admissions and awards, University of Regina (1975-1985).
Brown retired in 1985 and died in London, Ontario on July 21, 2008. During his career, he served as secretary-treasurer of the Saskatchewan Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.
Brown married Ann Howells on June 2, 1948 in Regina. They had two sons: Richard and John. Ann Brown died in Regina in 1988. Brown later married Mary Burns Rossie.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated, and used from 1955 to 1982 by James Austin Brown of Regina, Saskatchewan in his professional career as general manager of Group Medical Services; secretary of the Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Commission; and member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries. The records, which relate mainly to the Medicare Crisis and medical care generally, include correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications, briefs and submissions, policy manuals, annual reports, promotional literature, scrapbooks, and photographs.
This fonds also includes various records accumulated by James Austin Brown (photographs, postcards, reports, newspaper clippings, poems, publications, an architectural drawing and maps) dating from 1907 to 1982.
No series assignment has been applied to the records in this fonds.
