7 Boiler at the SPC, A.L. Cole Generating Station, Saskatoon. Steam boiler #7 generates 330,000 pounds of steam per hour, at a pressure of 850 lbs per square inch and temperature of 900 degrees F. The furnace 18' x 18' x 80' is completely lined with steel water tubes. The boiler converts 84% of fuel energy into steam. 16% is lost in heat in the stack gasses. Bunker crude oil, natural gas, or pulverized coal fuel may be used. This boiler used 25 tons of coal or 2200 gallons of oil per hour.

SPC's A.L. Cole Generating Plant, Saskatoon. #5 turbine is completely enclosed and is cooled by hydrogen gas which transfers heat more efficiently than air. The turbine converts steam energy to electrical energy as the expanding steam rotates the turbine spindle and generator shaft at 3,600 RPM. The electricity is carried by heavy cables to the transformer outside the plant, where the voltage is increased to 72,000 volts and distributed to the northern integrated system.
