Saskatchewan Roughriders Homecoming

Sound recordings of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Homecoming event on Tuesday, November 27, 1951 at Regina Exhibition Stadium. Presented by the Province of Saskatchewan. Broadcast and recorded by CKRM. The Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Ottawa Rough Riders in the 39th Grey Cup in Toronto, Ontario on November 24, 1951. The sound recordings include speeches by T.C. Douglas, Premier of Saskatchewan; G.N. Menzies, Mayor of Regina; and Roughriders coaching staff and players. Approximately fifty sets of the recordings were produced by the Government of Saskatchewan as gifts for players, coaches, and team executives.

Other productions series

This series consists of records pertaining to various other productions created by Minds Eye Pictures and its predecessor, Regina Motion Picture, Video & Sound Ltd, between 1988 and 1994. Productions consist of documentaries and music videos and encompass a variety of subject matters. Records include master tapes of the completed projects, as well as a small volume of working tapes and raw footage.

Memories of Echo Valley 88 (MI-12404) is a short documentary highlighting the 1988 Girl Guides International ten-day jamboree, held at Echo Valley Regional Park in July, 1988. The documentary includes: footage of the event which was attended by three thousand girl guides and leaders from forty countries; and short interviews of the event's director, Jean Beckley, and the Girl Guides' chief commissioner, Jean Howell. This Canada of Ours (MI-12405 to MI-12407) is a 1988 video presentation of a speech given by Dr. John Archer of Regina, Saskatchewan. In his speech, Archer expresses his views on Canada's unique character, its role in global economics and politics, and its role in unifying people within the country and beyond. This Land of Ours was presented by SaskTel, the Department of the Secretary of State for Canada, and the Council for Canadian Unity. Archer's speech is introduced by Jim Osborne, Saskatchewan president of the Council for Canadian Unity. (14:19)

MI-12408 to MI-12409 consist of master and promotional tapes for The Westerners, a proposed television series produced in 1991, profiling rural life in western Canada and the ties between rural and urban communities. Includes interviews of rural-based farmers, ranchers and entrepreneurs. (13:30, 5:30)

Canadian Ski Patrol: 50 Years of Excellence (MI-12410) profiles the function of the non-profit organization including volunteer ski patrol, first aid and avalanche rescue, and commemorates its fiftieth anniversary in 1991. Kevin Dewalt was its producer; Jackie Dzuba served as director and editor. (20:48)

See What You Wanna See (MI-12411) is a short documentary produced by Minds Eye Pictures for the Saskatchewan Communications Network in January, 1991. It tells the story of teenage mothers and the challenges they face in bettering their lives and those of their children despite negative social stigma, low-income employment, education debt, poor living conditions, and reliance on social assistance. 1991 High Tech Awards (MI-12412) consists of short biographical profiles of nominees for the various awards to be given out at the 1991 High Tech Awards. The awards honour Saskatchewan individuals and businesses involved in scientific and technological endeavours. (28:30)

Good Medicine (MI-12413) was produced by Minds Eye Pictures for the Saskatchewan Communications Network. Hosted by Lyn Goldman, the information program focuses of educating consumers on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications. Topics include medicine safety, what questions to ask regarding medications, sharing medicine, disposal of unused medicine, and the proper storage of medicine. (22:58)

It's All About Community (MI-12414) is a short educational video presented by the Office of Resource Development for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Featuring puppeteer Dave Kaiser, it aims at teaching children about their roles as members of a community; and that acts of kindness, empathy, cooperation, peace, love and care can make communities stronger. It's All About Community was produced in 1992 by Minds Eye Pictures in cooperation with Luther College, University of Regina. (15:04)

(MI-12415) is a French-language video outlining the French preschool curriculum and resources available through Le centre de Ressources Éducatives à la Petite Enfance. Produced in 1993 by Marielle Loef and narrated by Maud Beaulieu. (18:12)

The Gary Lane Roast (MI-12416) took place on May 2, 1991 at the Regency Ballroom of the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina. Speakers at the roast included Eric Berntson, Paul Martin, Cy MacDonald, Sid Buckwald, Bob Mitchell and Grant Devine, with a response from Lane. (41:33)

Electricity: Weighing the Options (MI-12417) is a educational video, produced in 1991, on the production and distribution of electricity in Saskatchewan. Narrated by Gerald Lenton-Young, it examines the various options for energy in the province (coal, natural gas, solar, wind, nuclear, biomass, wood, hydro) and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each, along with the long-term environmental impact of each into the future. Included are interviews of industry and environmental representatives. (58:53)

MI-12418 to MI-12431 consist of working tapes, raw footage as well as an audio cassette (SR-1252) and textual records, pertaining to a feature on Doug Thompson of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan for the 1994 series Our Stories, produced by Glass Co. Inc. Rob King of Minds Eye Pictures contributed to the Our Stories production in his role as director of the Thompson feature.

MI-12432 consists of an edited master of a 1995 short documentary on the life of Heidi Fitzsimmons, a physically disabled girl from Regina, Saskatchewan. The video depicts a typical day in Heidi's life, including her daily routines at home, and the various therapies she receives at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.

Music videos produced or accumulated by Regina Motion Picture, Video & Sound Ltd. or Minds Eye Pictures consist of: the Saskatchewan Roughriders' "11 Years - That's Enough" (1988, MI-12433); Fall Down Go Boom's "Tripping and Falling" and "I'm a Hero" (1989, MI-12434); Brenda Baker's "Sex and the Bomb" (ca. 1989, MI-12435); The Waltons' "Tired and Grey" (ca. 1989, MI-12435); Valdy's "Hey Michael Wilson" (1990, MI-12436 to MI-12438); Mary Mary's "Hell's Gate" (ca. 1991, MI-12439 to MI-12440); The Blazers' "Day By Day" and "Two Hearts" (1991, MI-12441 to MI-12443); Greenhouse's "Victim of Circumstance" (1991, MI-12444); and Heart Rouge's "Heart of the Matter" (1988, MI-12445).

Electronic records pertain to the Living Dinosaur Project, a children's trivia game produced by Minds Eye Interactive. Records consist of the game, entitled "Survival: the Game" and a clip relating to the project. Living Dinosaur Project received a Best Multimedia Award at the 2002 Saskatchewan Motion Picture Association Showcase Awards.
