Canadian Inventory of Historic Building

Records created, accumulated and used by the Canadian Inventory of Historic Building (CIHB), a national survey initiated in 1970 by the Canada Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, Parks Canada, National Historic Sites Service. The records consist mainly of photographs of the exteriors of approximately 11,942 buildings in rural and urban areas of Saskatchewan constructed between 1880 and 1914. Also included are maps, indexes, computer printouts and other administrative records relating to the project. The textual records include a copy of a booklet entitled Canadian Inventory of Historic Building Guide, issued by Environment Canada, Parks, April 1987; the CIHB Saskatchewan Rural Index and the CIHB Saskatchewan Urban Index.

The photographs are arranged in numerical order according to the geocode assigned by Parks Canada. The primary code for Saskatchewan is 08. The photographs relating to rural areas were assigned codes with six primary digits (i.e. 08-0103) while the photographs relating to urban areas have codes with five primary digits (i.e. 08-148).

Records accumulated and used by Peter J. Darke of Regina, Saskatchewan relating to his career with the Regina Police Service (1930-1972), including his work as Inspector of the Identification Branch and a Justice of the Peace. The types of records included are certificates; publications; photographs; newspaper articles; legislation; correspondence; handbooks; and the 1963 edition of the Regina City Police Off The Cuff yearbook.

The records relate mainly to the Canadian Identification Society; Canadian Police College (Royal Canadian Mounted Police); coroners; criminal law; fingerprints/fingerprinting; International Association for Identification; Justices of the Peace; law enforcement photography; metric system; Regina City Police; Regina Police Service; Royal Canadian Mounted Police Identification Branch; and murder of John Tudor.

Radville and Brooking Areas Oral History Project

This project contains the personal reminiscences of long-time residents of the Radville and Brooking, Saskatchewan areas. The interviewer was Jennette Verhelst. As the informants describe their lives homesteading, farming or living in town, one not only gains knowledge about general pioneer practices but also about the development of these places. They speak of when they first came to Saskatchewan, why they settled in these districts and what they were like in the early years. They recall when certain buildings and houses were built, anecdotes relating to their neighbours and other townspeople and the history of businesses, clubs and organizations. Most interviews are accompanied by photographs of the towns and of the informants. The accompanying documentation includes interview summaries, agreements and photographs.
