Prince Albert Historical Society Tape #41

This item consists of copies of three films created in the 1940s and later donated to the Prince Albert Historical Society from the estate of Myrtle Strangways, an educator and amateur cinematographer. The content of the films includes: black bears, squirrels and birds in the forest and at a campsite; ski jumping and downhill skiing; cross-country skiing; several parades, including military personnel, Royal Canadian Mounted Police personnel, horseback riders, and children; an Athlone I.O.D.E. pet parade; a convoy of Bombardier snow machines and military personnel carrying skis; a McCormick farm implement in use during harvest; a team of farm horses; an aerial demonstration of two Royal Canadian Air Force yellow chipmunk planes; a float plane; rapids; and sightseeing in the Canadian Rockies and Niagara Falls.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used mainly by the secretary of the Saskatchewan Historical Society during its operation in Regina, Saskatchewan. The fonds contains the administrative records of the Society along with the records relating to the history of the province from the mid 19th century to 1945 compiled and collected by the Society in fulfillment of its mandate.

The types of records included are secretary's annual reports; correspondence; minutes; financial statements; a constitution; an annual meeting programme; newspaper clippings; personal narratives; essays; obituaries; biographical sketches; photographs; articles and speeches.

No series assignment was applied to the records in this fonds.

Records of Isaac C. and John Dixon, founders of Dixon Brothers Store, Maple Creek, relating to business, political and family affairs. Index to letterbooks, 1886-1917. Includes records relating to provisions, etc. for the North-West Mounted Police at Maple Creek from 1904 to 1919. Files II.18, II.36 and II.85 relate to horses. File II.83 includes correspondence relating to half-breed scrip, 1899-1910, 1922.

Item is a mounted image from the southern Alberta badlands showing a First Nations person standing beside a horse, next to two men (possibly Northwest Mounted Police [NWMP] officers) on horses (one in profile, one shown from the rear). Scrub plant growth is in foreground of image and rocky outcrops (hoodoos) in background.

Image appeared in Canadian Illustrated News, May 22, 1875 (volume XI, number 21, p. 324).

Items are four photographs depicting scenes from the William Robert Bell farm:
(1) Item is an image of the round stone barn, portable wooden granaries, sulky plows, and a wagon. Standing on proper left of image is a man wearing a dark jacket, identified as William Robert Bell. Two additional subjects are visible in image, but are unidentified; first subject is position between the portable granaries and the second is in the doorway of the barn.

(2) Item is an image of a horse and six men in front of the stone headquarters house on the Bell farm. Lone figure positioned on proper left of image is identified as William Robert Bell.

(3) Item is an image of a First Nations young woman with a wooden barn on the proper left of the image.

(4) Item is an image of First Nations man standing in front of a teepee (tipi), with an additional teepee on either side of the image. Beside the teepee on the proper right of image is a Red River cart.
