The records in this fonds were created and accumulated by John King in his capacity as secretary-treasurer of the provincial Cooperative Commonwealth Youth Movement (CCYM), as a CCF member of the Regina Citizen's Defence Movement, and in his work with the CCF Research Bureau.
The records in this fonds consist of files related to the Regina Riot on July 1, 1935, the resulting court cases, the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation, and the Citizen's Defence Movement. Document types included in the fonds are: correspondence, petitions, minutes, resolutions, reports, and membership lists.
King, John (Jack) Gregory, 1909-1944
This fonds consists of a small volume of personal and professional records created, accumulated and used by Tom Johnston of Regina, Saskatchewan. The personal records include his ration book; his passport (1919); his diary and a certificate relating to his round-the world trip on the deep sea freighter "The Steel Flyer" (1960-1961); a postcard addressed to his future wife, K. Waters in Birmingham, England (1905) and a copy of the eulogy delivered by Woodrow S. Lloyd at his memorial service on September 20, 1969.
Professional records include Johnston's diary and a photograph relating to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in New Zealand and Australia he attended as Saskatchewan's representative in 1950. The fonds includes a sound recording of an interview with Tom Johnston regarding the history of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in 1965 (reference code Tape R-6089) and sound recordings of an interview with Tom Johnston regarding his boyhood, homesteading in the Last Mountain district, the farmers' movement and his experiences as a politician and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan conducted by Chris Higginbotham in 1963 (reference codes Tape R-6145; Tape R-6146).
