Bird: Building Canada for 100 Years

Illustrated history of Bird Construction Inc. compiled to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary. The company was established in 1920 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan by Hubert John Bird and two partners (Bird, Woodall & Simpson Ltd.). The publication outlines some of the company's memorable projects completed across Canada and in the United States. Publication's editorial team was Lara de Klerk, Michael Knul, and Lauren Wiseman.

P.G. Downes fonds

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by Prentice G. Downes relating mainly to his travels by air, rail, boat, and canoe through northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and the Northwest Territories between 1936 and 1947.

The types of records included are Downes' detailed handwritten journals; correspondence; Downes' 1941 draft of Sleeping Island; material relating to Cree culture and traditions; published and unpublished articles; and photographs.

The fonds also includes the first and second volumes of Distant Summers: P.G. Downes' Journals of Travels in Northern Canada, 1936-1947, edited by R.H. Cockburn. Reproductions of Downes' original photographs made for publication purposes in 1996 or later are included.

No series assignment has been applied to the records in this fonds.

"Bill" Rae; 7) amateur photographer and cinematographer Ernie Poole; 8) Trafalgar Fountain; 9) Cyril Dolman, a.k.a. Slim Wilson; 10) the Regina Airport; 11) Grey Cups won and hosted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club; 12) the 1944 provincial election victory by the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation; 13) territorial and provincial exhibitions/fairs held in Regina; 14) the formation of a women's baseball league in Regina in 1923; 15) the Concorde supersonic jet landing in Regina in 1987; 16) Regina's changing skyline; (17) the construction and opening of the Saskatchewan Power Corporation head office in downtown Regina in 1963.
