An interview with Ruth and Walter Smishek, interviewed by Dennis Gruending for his book on Allan E. Blakeney called, PROMISES TO KEEP. Ruth and Walter Smishek discuss the personalities of Anne and Allan Blakeney, the relationship as friends between the two couples, the Smisheks explain how they thought the Blakeneys felt after the 1982 Saskatchewan election defeat and what the Smisheks believe Blakeney will do post 1987. This is a continuation of the Walter Smishek interview, conducted by Dennis Gruending for his book on Allan E. Blakeney called, PROMISES TO KEEP. Walter Smishek gives his analysis of the way circumstances developed regarding potash and potash mines in the 70's. He then discusses the relationship between the Blakeney government and Saskatchewan Federation of Labour. He also explains why he was concerned about uranium development. Walter Smishek breifly discusses the affermative action programmes particularly aimed towards metis and Indian people in 1979. The last thing they talk about is Walter Smishek's opinion of what happened in the 1982 provincial election.

An interview with Walter Smishek, interviewed by Dennis Gruending for his book on Allan E. Blakeney called, PROMISES TO KEEP. Smishek begins this interview by talking about his knowledge of Allan Blakeney before 1960 and at the start of Allan Blakeney's entry into politics. He then goes on to talk about the medicare dispute and what role Blakeney played in it, how he saw it from his vantage point, why Allan Blakeney was made Minister of Health and his time spent in that role. They discuss the Waffle Manifesto and the debates that were had surrounding the issue, meetings that took place regarding the leadership of Woodrow Lloyd, the leadership campaign in 1970 and the preparation for the 1971 election. At the end of this cassette Smishek describes Allan Blakeney's 1971 political campaign and how he organized and ran things in the government after winning the provincial election.
