Saskatchewan Provincial Elections - 1982 and 1986: Party Strategies Oral History Project

Sound recordings of oral history interviews with politicians and party workers from the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Progressive Conservative Party (PC) relating to the strategies used in the April 26, 1982 and October 20, 1986 provincial general elections. The project was conducted as an exercise for a Journalism class at the University of Regina organized by assistant professor Jill Spelliscy. Interviewers were Trent Bancarz; Richard Blitz; Michael Drapack; David Eggleston; William Gibson; Barton Johnson; and Mark Torjusen.

Records created, accumulated and used by William (Bill) George Knight in his role as provincial secretary of the New Democratic Party (NDP), as a member of the Saskatchewan and federal NDP, and while principal secretary to Saskatchewan Premier Allan E. Blakeney, 1979-1982. The collection includes photographs; sound recordings; maps and architectural drawings.

Included is a sound recording of Premier Allan Blakeney speaking to delegates to the 1974 Saskatchewan NDP convention. Blakeney answers questions relating to the raising of the minimum wage, construction of a noodle factory, possibilities of an election in 1975, and relations with the federal government (reference code Tape R-9787).
