Dramatized documentary: This film discusses the struggle of western Canadian farmers to create an orderly marketing system. It describes the advantages of an orderly marketing system and the history of the farmers' efforts to gain control the the process. The first grain producers organization formed in Canada was the Territorial Grain Growers Association at Indian Head in 1901. In 1923 the Alberta Wheat Pool was formed and in 1924 the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the Manitoba Wheat Pool were formed. The events leading to the creation of the Canadian Wheat Board in 1935 are also described. The film includes interior shots of the Canadian Wheat Board's building in Winnipeg showing many of the staff at work. Also shown is contemporary colour footage of men and women, dressed in period costume, operating old steam powered threshing machines.
