Newsreel: A 2 part newsreel that follows the activities of Balloon Squadron 992 as it positions its balloons to guard the Firth River Bridge, near North Queensferry, Scotland, against German air strikes. These precautions are taken after a German air strike which took place on Monday, October 16, 1939, the first air strike of the war. The film shows the work of the men who handle the defensive weapon, how they maneuver the balloons and how mobile units are quickly moved to sites to defend against low flying airplanes. Includes air battle scenes as British Supermarine Spitfires clash with German Heinkel 111 bombers. Also describes Canada efforts, through the British Commonweath Air Training Programme, to train pilots to help Britain fight off the threat of invasion from Germany. Also included is a 2 minute item entitled BRITAIN FACES INVASION THREAT. Describes Britain's readness to fight off a German invasion and emphasizes the importance to Canadaians of purchasing war savings certificates.
