Canada Carries On! Wings of Youth

Newsreel: A 2 part newsreel (see FILM R-4036 and FILM R-4037) on Canada's contribution to the British Commonwealth Air Training Programme. Describes the techniques used to train men as pilots, gunners, navigators, airplanes mechanics, and bombardiers. Includes scenes of men training in the Link Flight Trainer flight simulators; World War 1 dogfights; different types airplanes including Avro Ansons, North American Harvards and Fairey Battles; Air Marshal Billy Bishop. Lorne Greene is the narrator. Also included is a 2 minute item entitled CANADA INCREASES PARACHUTE OUTPUT FOR EMPIRE FLIERS. Describes the Canada's effort to increase parachute production when demand grows as men graduate fron the British Commonweath Air Training Programme and are sent to the war front. Includes scenes of people manufacturing and packing parachutes. CAUTION - EXTREME SHRINKAGE - DO NOT PROJECT!!

Scarborough's New Map of the Dominion of Canada

Scarborough's new map of the Dominion of Canada, showing the country's provinces, territories and the colony of Newfoundland. Includes: railways and steamship lines; principal cities, villages and stations; and distances between principal stations, in miles. Index includes population data for each of the provinces and territories, as well as Newfoundland, and population data and map coordinated for locations within each of the jurisdictions, based on 1911 census data. The verso of the map shows maps pertaining to the conflict of the First World War, including: the Western Campaign; the Italian Campaign; the scene of the Western battles along the Franco-Belgian-German frontiers; the Western Theatre; the Eastern Theatre; and the Asiatic Campaigns. Also included on the verso are maps of: the British Isles; Europe; Southeastern Europe (Italy, Austria-Hungary, Balkan States and Turkey); Austro-Italian Boundary; and Constantinople and Vicinity (Dardanelles, Sea of Marmora and Bosporus).

Roland John Groome Album

Album of photographs created and compiled by Roland Groome dating from his entry into the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and continued through his return to Saskatchewan. Photographs document flight training in Ontario and Texas, business activities in Moose Jaw and Saskatoon, as well as a general interest in aviation.

POW - Behind Canadian Barbed Wire

The 2004 edition of a publication written by David J. Carter and published by Eagle Butte Press Co. The book was originally published in 1980 under the title "Behind Canadian Barbed Wire". The publication relates to alien, refugee and prisoner of war camps in Canada from 1914-1920 and 1939-1946 and includes names of prisoners of war who died while under Canadian control and names of prisoners of war buried in Canada.

Publication entitled, Towards a New Past, Volume I: Sweet Grass Transcripts, which contains stories from the River People of the Plains Cree Nation who live or have lived on the Sweet Grass Reserve, including Antoine Lonesinger, Andrew Swimmer, Eli Pooyak, Marie Osecap, and Annie Whitecalfe [sp?]. Also included are stories from Emma Oxebin of the Red Pheasant Reserve, and Mrs. Marion Dillon, Pierre Harper, and Francis Harper of the Seekascootch [sp?] Reserve. Published by the Government of Saskatchewan Department of Culture and Youth.

Publication entitled Towards a New Past, Volume II: Found Poems of the Metis People, which contains poetry from Metis people in Duck Lake, Batoche, St. Louis, Prince Albert, and other parts in central Saskatchewan. Interviewer: Carol Pearlstone. Edited by Mick Burrs. Published by Government of Saskatchewan Department of Culture and Youth, 1975. (40 p.) The file contains both a hardcover and a coil bound printing.
