A Visit from Christmas past

Item component consists of a selection of reminiscences by early Saskatchewan homesteaders on past Christmas and New Years' celebrations as recorded in replies to a questionnaire sent out by Provincial Archivist Lewis Thomas in 1954. Stories selected are by H. A. Anslow of Stony Beach, Chas. C. Bray of Wolseley, Mrs. M. M. White, WHS Grange, and Mrs. Ruth Giles.

Article is supplemented by black and white photographs showing: Christmas decorations in Percy's Butcher Shop in Broadview (ca. 1912) with Percy Whitemouth, William Quail and an unidentified individual; John P. Swedberg family at Marchwell in 1903; the Rigby family seated around a fireplace in 1913 (Mrs. William Rigby, Bruce Rigby, Marrie Rigby, Merle Rigby, Eric Rigby, Percy Musgrave, Fred ?, and possibly Marion Rigby); recreation of the Nativity scene for Icelandic pageant at Wynyard Federated Church in 1926; Christmas gathering in Crane Lake, 1900; children participating in Togo School concert at the Presbyterian Church, ca. 1910; and city workers decorating 20 Street West in downtown Saskatoon, 1986.

Records include illustrated booklet entitled Above and Beyond: The Story of the Star-Phoenix [between 1967 and 1970; booklets, a postcard and a pennant relating to the Queen Elizabeth Power Station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan operated by Saskatchewan Power Corporation [1959 or after]; and a folder entitled An Introduction to Customerized Homes by Cairns Homes Ltd. with 19 sheets relating to different models of homes (illustration, specifications and floor plans), ca. 1970.
