Herbert as Director of Historic Sites under the Saskatchewan Jubilee Committee, 1953-1955, and thereafter in the Department of Natural Resources until his retirement on July 31, 1956. The first section contains files relating to individual historic sites in Saskatchewan. The second section consists of files relating to the administration of the historic sites program. Also included are Herbert's appointment book and records of Arthur S. Morton. Includes information on Pile o' Bones. For information on Edna Jaques, see file for Briercrest.

The file relating to the Cree - Blackfoot Battle, 1866 includes photographs of the Log Valley Massacre site (Vermillion Hills). The file entitled Date Rock, Druid includes a photograph captioned "Dated Rock" near Druid, dated July 1, 1791".
