- Duplicated 1985 (originally created 1900)
The fonds contains black and white prints and copied negatives, consisting of 131 images from two photograph albums compiled by Narcisse-Omer Cote. The photographs document the travels of the North-West Half-Breed Commission (1900), of which Narcisse Cote and Samuel McLeod were commissioners. The Commission was to enumerate and issue scrip to the Metis who qualified in the District of Saskatchewan and a small part of Manitoba. This assignment lasted from May 16-December 6, 1900. The images show the commissioners and members of their accompanying party, metis and native people, and various communities and buildings. Locations visited include Prince Albert, St. Louis, Batoche, Snake Plains, Devil's Island, Green Lake, Battleford, Onion Lake, Bresaylor, Fort a la Corne, Sturgeon River, Cumberland House, Birch River Portage, The Pas, Cedar Lake, Grand Rapids, Saskatoon, and Red Deer Lake.
108 prints are original photos mounted onto album pages with captions. 95 negatives were copied from a loaned album of 151 photos inscribed: “Souvenir of a trip in the Saskatchewan Disctrict 1900-To Samuel McLeod Esq., with the compliments of N.O. Cote.” Between the two albums, many of the photographs are the same, although the albums are not identical. The caption information may also vary slightly for the same image.
