Cairn erected in 1928 by Historic Sites and Monuments Board at Cumberland House. Noted on back of photo, "Looking N-NE at Historic Sites of Canada cairn at Cumberland House, erected 1928 to commemorate [the] establishment of Cumberland House by Samuel Hearne, in 1774, as first permanent interior post of the H[udson] B[ay] Company."

Completed in December 1963, it was built under contract by Piggot Construction. The school also serves students from Pemmican Portage. 03: View of banquet head table guests at the official opening of the Cumberland House Legion Hall. The North East Saskatchewan Legion Branch, established in 1946, is believed to be the only all-Métis Legion branch in Canada. 04: Joseph Johnson of Prince Albert cuts the Legionnaire ribbon at the official opening, while Branch president Pierre Carriere looks on. Johnson had an active role in the formation of the Cumberland Branch in 1946 while he was stationed as a conservation officer with the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources. 05: Johnson pins a medal of merit onto the lapel of Cumberland House R.C.M.P. special constable Charlie Fosseneuve. The award was given in recognition of Fosseneuve's leadership role in Red Cross activities in Cumberland House.

Conversion to telephone dial service at Cumberland House

Views showing a ceremony held at Cumberland House to mark the conversion by Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) of telephone direct service from operator-based service. Cumberland House was the final exchange in Saskatchewan to have the conversion process completed. Views include addresses being given by platform guests, including Hon. John Brockelbank, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Telecommunications and G.D. McCormick, SaskTel general manager; Hon. Brockelbank, other platform guests, and local residents placing telephone calls; a ribbon cutting by Chief Tom Settee; guests visiting following the ceremony; and Hon. Allan E. Blakeney, Premier of Saskatchewan, at his desk in the Premier's Office, receiving a telephone call from Hon. Brockelbank at Cumberland House. Also included are aerial views of Cumberland House in autumn.
