Item is a photocopy of a map showing the railways, trails, and telegraph lines used in the Riel Rebellion of 1885 for the districts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Keewatin, Assiniboia, and Manitoba, along with parts of Montana and North Dakota. Along top edge of sheet are illustrations of: Qu'Appelle Valley; Sir John A. MacDonald; and Medicine Hat (showing bridge crossing over South Saskatchewan River); along bottom edge of sheet are illustrations of: Kopiassiswean (alternately known as Koriassiswean or Bird Skin) based on photograph taken near Calgary in 1884; Major General Sir Frederick Dobson Middleton; crossed rifles with bayonets; "Savage Indian Warfare" - a depiction of a First Nations' warrior standing over a prone figure with a raised arm; Louis Riel; crossed tomahawk and Indian pipe; and Ne-Raip-A-Shaw.

Item is an image of witnesses at the trial who had been held by Riel and the Métis at the time of the battle of Batoche. Identified is Charles Nolin (2nd from left, front row). Others held prisoner by Riel, and later witnesses included: Harold E. Ross, Peter Tomkins, William Tomkins, T. E. Jackson, John W. Astley, George Ness, John B. Lash, Thomas Sanderson. Others that were held prisoner: C. M. Newitt, McKean, Woodcock, Wm. Henry Jackson.

Dow, William Gerrard

Papers of Mr. Dow, who served in the militia during the Fenian Raids, and later travelled west with Col. Stoughton Dennis in 1869 as part of the surveying party at Red River. Included are family tree, and record of marriages and births; certificates and information concerning his military service; letters including one with instructions from Colonel Dennis for party entering Metis territory.
