Haultain and Robson fonds

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated, and used by barristers Hugh Amos Robson and F.W.G. Haultain during the operation of the partnership known as Haultain and Robson, a law firm that operated in Regina, North-West Territories between 1896 and 1898.

A small volume of records created between 1890 and 1896 by the firms Scott and Hamilton [David Lynch Scott and William Cayley Hamilton]; Scott, Hamilton and Robson; and Hamilton and Robson are included. Prior to his partnership with F.W.G. Haultain, Hugh Amos Robson was a partner in the above firms.

A small volume of personal papers created, accumulated, and used between 1895 and 1898 by Hugh Amos Robson are included. These papers include the preparation of consolidated ordinances of 1898, Regina Bar Association meeting notes, minutes of a temperance meeting at Buchanan church, and information on voting machines.

The records of Haultain and Robson relate to cases concerning government (disputed elections); libel / slander; land use; property and estates; taxation; intellectual property (patents); and debt collection / creditors.

Types of records included are correspondence; telegraphs; notices of appeal; notices of motion; notices of filings; affidavits; rulings; summons; statements of claims; orders for discovery; agreements; and court submissions. Business account papers are also included, such as a bankbook; invoices; and financial statements.

The fonds has been grouped under four headings: Papers relating to the operation of the law firm and miscellaneous papers; Court cases involving Nicholas Flood Davin; Other case files; and Legal documents.

File III.21 and File IV. 15 relate to Jean Louis Légaré and include correspondence regarding North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) scouts and scrip.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used mainly by the secretary of the Saskatchewan Historical Society during its operation in Regina, Saskatchewan. The fonds contains the administrative records of the Society along with the records relating to the history of the province from the mid 19th century to 1945 compiled and collected by the Society in fulfillment of its mandate.

The types of records included are secretary's annual reports; correspondence; minutes; financial statements; a constitution; an annual meeting programme; newspaper clippings; personal narratives; essays; obituaries; biographical sketches; photographs; articles and speeches.

No series assignment was applied to the records in this fonds.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by the Hon. Walter Scott from 1900 to 1916 during his political career in the North-West Territories as the Liberal Party member of the House of Commons for the Assiniboia West constituency (1900-1905); and in Saskatchewan as Premier and President of the Executive Council (1905-1916); Commissioner of Public Works (1905-1909); Commissioner of Railways (1906-1908); Municipal Commissioner (1908-1909); Minister of Municipal Affairs (1909-1910); Minister of Public Works (1909-1912); and Minister of Education (1912-1916); as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Lumsden (1905-1908) and Swift Current (1908-1917) constituencies; and as a member of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party. The fonds also consists of personal records from 1887 to 1937.

This fonds also includes a small volume of records created and accumulated by Scott's half-brother John Adam McDonald, his niece Helene Giffen and his great-nephew Bill Giffen.

This fonds contains public, private and political records.
