Documentary profiling Joan Bamford Fletcher, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan. Fletcher, who as an officer of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) during World War II, coordinated the evacuation of 2000 Dutch internees from a camp in Sumatra in 1945. Interviewees include: Beryl Escott, FANY squardon leader; Madge Tibbenham, Fletcher's sister; Lynette Beardwood, FANY Headquarters; Eleanor Minor Nicholls and Nora Byers Granjnert, FANY officers; René Pottkamp, historian with the Netherlands Institute of War Documentation; Lou Lanzing, Dutch internment camp survivor; Diana Lary, professor of Chinese history, University of British Columbia; Dean Oliver, senior historian, Canadian War Museum; and Rev. Jonathan Takeo Yokoyama, former Japanese military cadet.
