Historia biográfica
Freddie Herbert Robbins was born on July 18, 1919. He received his early training in architecture from the Canadian National Railways' Architect's Office in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He later earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Manitoba. Robbins was granted membership to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and to the Saskatchewan Association of Architects in 1954.
Robbins began his professional architectural career as Chief Draftsman with the Canadian National Railways' Architect's Office in Winnipeg. He then held the position of Assistant Architect with the Government of Saskatchewan Department of Public Works in the early-to-mid 1950s. Robbins established a private architectural firm with Edward J. McCudden in the mid 1950s. He later ran his own architectural firm, Robbins Architect Ltd., until his retirement in 1987.
Herb Robbins was married to Gladys Robbins. Together, they operated Ladyrand Ranch east of Regina and enjoyed gardening. Herb Robbins died on December 28, 2004.
Historial de custodia
The records were stored in the Robbins home between 1985 and 1999. Gladys Robbins, the wife of Herb Robbins, handled the donation of her husband's records to the Saskatchewan Archives Board. Mrs. Robbins also worked for the architectural firm. The transfer of the material by Gladys Robbins took place on behalf of Herb Robbins due to his declining health.
Alcance y contenido
Fonds consists of architectural drawings, primarily of schools and other public and government buildings with a smaller number of drawings of small office, commercial and other building types including private residences. The planned locations of the structures are almost exclusively within Saskatchewan.
They were created by Herb Robbins while in private practice first in the firm of McCudden and Robbins and later with the company of which he was sole owner, Herb Robbins Architect Ltd. A small number of drawings were not created by Robbins but served as source or reference material for renovations or demolition of existing buildings. Most of the pre-1955 drawings would fall into this category.

Arreglo
The Robbins database was originally created using minimal information contained in an index included with the Robbins records. This basic information consisted primarily of project name, project number, location of proposed building and building type. Other fields existed in the database but no data had been entered.
The index did not include a number of projects for which drawings exist. Ten projects listed in the index and in the database did not have corresponding drawings within the records. These ten records were deleted from the database and are listed below (Project Number - Project Name):
Project 8417 - [No Name Given]
Project 6605 - CKCK-TV Workshop (addition)
Project 6502 - J.I. Case (Wall replacement)
Project 6315 - L.E. McFarland Residence (Alterations)

Project 6069 - [No Name Given]
Project 5934 - Altwasser's Hub
