Historia biográfica

Ernest Gordon Booth was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 15, 1899 to George Washington and Esther Marie (née Smale) Booth. Around 1902, he moved with his family to Brandon, Manitoba. Around 1906, the family moved to the Semans, Saskatchewan district to establish a farm. Booth attended the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1933 from the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.

Booth worked as the supervisor of the Saskatchewan Registered Seed Growers Association plant in Moose Jaw until 1927, when he moved to Fargo, North Dakota. He resided there until 1933, when he moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to complete his Ph.D. Booth served as an administrative officer in the United States Departments of Agriculture and Commerce in St. Paul until his retirement in 1969. He remained in St. Paul until around 1977, when he moved to Delray Beach, Florida, where he focused on genealogy and wrote numerous family histories. Booth died on February 2, 1993.

Booth married Alta Jane Metheral on July 2, 1927 in Moose Jaw. The Booths had two children: George Metheral and Elizabeth Ann.

Alta Booth, wife of Ernest G. Booth, donated some of these records to the Saskatoon office, Saskatchewan Archives in one accession in 1994: S94-3 (January 24, 1994).

Alcance y contenido

This fonds consists of genealogical records created, accumulated and used by Ernest G. Booth, a former resident of Saskatchewan. The records are primarily family histories compiled and written by Booth about the Booth, Smale, Metheral, Perry, Gregory, Heron, Kennedy, Taylor, Ferguson, and Wright families. The fonds also includes a small volume of newspaper clippings relating to Ernest Booth and his father, George Washington Booth.

Ernest G. Booth donated some of these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives in ten accessions between 1979 and 1990: R79-251 (July 24, 1979); R79-426 (November 30, 1979); R80-569 (July 30, 1980); R80-571 (August 12, 1980); R81-463 (November 3, 1981); R83-416 (September 21, 1983); R84-242 (June 25, 1984); R87-470 (December 9, 1987); R88-117 (April 6, 1988); and R90-285 (October 19, 1990).
Ernest Booth donated some of these records to the Saskatoon office, Saskatchewan Archives in three accessions between 1980 and 1988: S80-68 (July 1, 1980); S81-177 (October 20, 1981) and S88-17 (March 23, 1988).
