Coal miners in Saskatchewan

Events following the Regina Riot in 1935

Two images of events following the Regina Riot of 1935 copied from The Regina Daily Star, July 3 and 6, 1935. Images are of rioters penned in at Exhibition Stadium and of a procession of people on the street for the funeral of slain police officer Charles Millar.

According to information provided by the donor, Edwin P. Hadden farmed in the Melfort, Saskatchewan district before enlisting in World War One and serving in France. After the War, he served as Chief of Police in Melfort and in the late 1920s, he joined the police force of the Canadian National Railways (CNR) in Melville. In the late 1930s, he served with the police force in Saskatoon before moving to Calgary, Alberta and enlisting in World War Two.

Saskatchewan Federation of Labour's 'Day of Protest', February 2, 1976

Photographs depicting scenes from a protest rally organized by the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (S.F.L.), held on February 2, 1976 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Attended by S.F.L. members and supporters, the rally was held in response to proposed wage controls by the Saskatchewan and federal governments. Images depict the rally held at Exhibition Auditorium, the procession from the exhibition grounds, south on Albert Street, to the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, the rally held on the front steps of the Legislative Building with S.F.L. president George Semeniuk tacking a Workers' Proclamation placard to the front door of the building, and the follow-up rally held at Exhibition Auditorium.

This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used from 1949 to 1961 by the secretary of the Saskatchewan Peace Council.

The types of records included are correspondence, administrative files, briefs and submissions, membership lists of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly, speeches and transcripts, publicity material (petition forms, posters, announcements, advertisements, and parade float designs), publications and serials, photographs, posters, postcards, pencil drawings, maps, and sound recordings (of Jim (James Gareth) Endicott [1898-1993]).

No series were identified within the fonds.

Tape R-10365 and Tape R-10366 are sound recordings of an address delivered in 1950 by the Very Reverend Hewlett Johnson, the Dean of Canterbury, to an audience in Regina, Saskatchewan on the tension between the East and the West and the importance of working for peace in the world. Tape R-10367 is an undated sound recording of an unidentified member of the Canadian Peace Congress making a statement explaining the Congress's purpose and aims. Tape R-10368 is a sound recording of an address by Dr. James G. Endicott to an audience in Regina, Saskatchewan on the USSR's position on various topics related to world peace.
