History
La Commission Culturelle Fransaskoise Incorporée was a provincial non-profit organization established in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1974. The Commission was incorporated on January 6, 1976 under the provisions of the Societies Act. The Commission's mandate was to promote and develop French culture and the arts in Saskatchewan. The Commission hosted local and national tours of singers, theatre companies and art exhibits; planned and oversaw workshops; offered cultural and artistic programs to communities, francophone and immersion schools and was involved in the production of educational materials. Various federal and provincial government agencies, private foundations, corporations and individual contributors provided funding to the Commission.
In 1980, the Commission, along with other francophone organizations, assumed the responsibility for the Fête fransaskoise, an annual gathering of people from all corners of the province for a three-day festival of song, dance, and theatre.
On January 10, 2000, the Commission's name was officially changed to Conseil Culturel Fransaskois Incorporé. In 2008, the Executive Committee consisted of a president; a vice-president; a treasurer; a secretary; an artistic adviser; a southern adviser and a northern adviser. The general manager oversees the daily operations, along with an administrative staff member, a project coordinator and a program coordinator. Membership in the Conseil is open to all French-speaking artists and interested individuals; any French cultural association that has been operating for a minimum of two years; and representatives from schools, school boards and parent associations. The Conseil currently (2011) continues to operate in Regina.
