Custodial history
Scope and content
This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used by Carl J. Tracie, former resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, during his professional career as a geographer, professor and writer. The majority of the records pertain to ethnicity and settlement, particularly relating to Doukhobors in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
The fonds includes colour and black and white mounted slides taken mainly by Tracie on field trips, vacations and for teaching purposes. The slides depict a variety of subjects including: buildings, plants, animals, bridges, cities and towns, farms and geographical features. The images were taken in Canada, the United States of America, England and China. Many of the slides focus on Doukhobor, Hutterite, Mennonite and Ukrainian structures and settlements. The majority of the photographic prints, which relate mainly to Doukhobors and Doukhobor village sites, are duplicates from the Glenbow-Alberta Institute and the British Columbia Archives.
The fonds also includes copies of the federal Department of the Interior files on Doukhobor villages; issues of ISKRA (published by the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ); research files containing original and copied materials relating mainly to Doukhobors, Hutterites and Mennonites; correspondence; and book reviews and articles written by Tracie. A small volume of records relating to Ernest Strautman's farming operation near Speers, Saskatchewan is included.
No series assignment has been applied to the records in this fonds.
