This series consists of records relating to China Crossing, a documentary produced by Heartland Motion Pictures Inc. in association with CBC Regina. The documentary was written, directed and co-produced by Bill Siggins and Guo Funfung and executive produced by Stephen Onda and Darcy Mitchell. It was produced with the assistance of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Co-Production Program, the Saskatchewan Family Foundation and SaskFILM. The working title of the documentary was Farmers of Two Worlds.
The documentary focuses on the experiences of a group of young farmers who participate in an agricultural exchange program between China and Canada. The documentary includes scenes of factory farms in China and Chinese youth working on farms with English speaking families in Saskatchewan. The Chinese youth visit Agribition in Regina and work briefly on a vegetable farm in Redcliff, Alberta. Interview segments with the Bueckert family of Tugaske, Saskatchewan are included.
Records relating to this production include a copy of the finished product; raw footage shot in China and Canada; and sound recordings of interviews with Bill Siggins broadcast on CBC Radio, Regina on September 22, 1990 and March 11, 1991.
