Meredith Black Banting was born on September 19, 1901 in Rounthwaite, Manitoba. He moved with his family to Manor, Saskatchewan as a teenager. He farmed in Richlea and operated Banting's Machine and Furniture Shop in Kindersley from 1933 to 1942.

In 1942, Banting entered the United Church Ministry. He served as a lay minister in Duval, Saskatchewan while completing high school correspondence classes. He then served as a lay minister in Raymore and Viscount while attending St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon. After his ordination in Moose Jaw in 1948, Banting served numerous parishes in Saskatchewan (Central Butte, Moose Jaw, Broadview, Whitewood, Wapella, Craik) and Alberta (Bow Island, Beaver Lodge). In 1970, Banting retired to Regina, where he was involved with the Westminster United Church's native ministries. He died in Regina on May 20, 1991.

Banting was a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Moose Jaw and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 7 in Regina. An amateur photographer, Banting also loved music and sang in several choirs. Banting wrote, compiled and edited numerous books, mainly of poetry and reminiscences, and operated Banting Publishers, a small press publishing company, out of his home at 2306 Athol Street in Regina. Banting also produced and hosted several television and radio programs, mainly for children and senior citizens.

Banting married Florence Harper in 1934. The Bantings had one daughter: Anne.

Lorne Albert Calvert was born on December 24, 1952 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Albert Calvert and Beulah (Phillips) Calvert. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Regina and a Bachelor of Divinity (Theology) degree from St. Andrew's College, University of Saskatchewan.

In 1976, Calvert was ordained in the United Church of Canada and served various congregations in rural Saskatchewan. He was Minister of Zion United Church in Moose Jaw from 1979 to 1986.

Calvert was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1986 and served as a New Democratic Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Moose Jaw South (1986-1991) and Moose Jaw Wakamow (1991-1999) constituencies. He was elected MLA for the Saskatoon Riversdale constituency in 2001.

Calvert served in the Roy Romanow Government from 1992 to 1998 as Associate Minister of Health (1992-1995); Minister of Health (1995) and Minister of Social Services (1995-1998). Calvert was Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Power Corporation (1992-1993); SaskEnergy Inc. (1992-1993); Souris Basin Development Authority (1992-1993); Wakamow Valley Authority (1992-1998); Health Services Utilization and Research Commission (1995); Public Service Commission (1995-1998); Seniors (1995-1998); and Disabilities Directorate (1997-1998).

Calvert resigned from Cabinet in 1998 and did not run in the 1999 provincial general election. He worked as a social policy advisor to Premier Romanow from 1999 to 2000. Calvert was elected Leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party on January 27, 2001 and became Premier of Saskatchewan and President of the Executive Council on February 8, 2001. He was re-elected in the 2003 general election and served as Premier of Saskatchewan until his Government was defeated in the 2007 general election by the Saskatchewan Party. Calvert announced his retirement as party leader and MLA on October 16, 2008 and was succeeded as leader by Dwain Lingenfelter on June 6, 2009.

Calvert currently (2009) is Principal of St. Andrew's College at the University of Saskatchewan.

Lorne Calvert married Betty Anne Sluzalo on October 25, 1975. They have two children: David Lorne and Stephanie Anne.

Rev. A. E. Elliott was born in Millbrook, Ontario on February 7, 1879. He graduated from Peterborough Collegiate Institute in 1895 and after teaching briefly in Ontario he graduated from the University of Toronto in 1905. In 1906 he moved to Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan to take position in a Methodist church, followed by appointments to the Rae Street Methodist Church in Regina from 1908 to 1911, a church in Grand Coulee from 1911 to 1915, and then the district of Drinkwater - Briercrest until 1919. In 1919 Elliott began farming near Dinsmore, but continued to preach at nearby Presbyterian churches. Thereafter he served churches in the Milden area between 1923 and 1934 and had a six-year term as a conference convenor of Christian education for the United Church of Canada in the province of Saskatchewan. In addition he spent thirteen (13) years serving the Sutherland - Cory charge of the United Church until 1947 when he moved to the Summerberry - Ellisboro area around Wolseley where he would work for 10 years. In 1966 he moved to Grenfell, where he acted as a substitute preacher. Rev. Elliott received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from St. Andrew's College at the University of Saskatchewan. He died on October 19, 1982 in Grenfell.

Rev. A. E. Elliott married Mabel May Johnston on May 26, 1909.

G.G. Heffelfinger was a Presbyterian and later United Church minister, whose Saskatchewan pastorates included Buchanan, Grenfell, Vanscoy, Melfort, Sixth Avenue United Church (Regina), and Watrous.

Raymond Hord was born on December 14, 1918 in Ilderton, Ontario to James and Lena Hord. While doing a ministerial apprenticeship at Eastend, Saskatchewan in the 1940s he met and married June Wright. They moved to Regina where he became the first minister at Lakeview United Church, from 1948 to 1959. Hord died on March 1, 1968.
