Edna Jaques was a popular and prolific Saskatchewan poet and author. Born in Collingwood, ON in 1891, Jaques and her family moved to a homestead in what is now Briercrest, SK in 1902. Jaques began writing poetry at an early age and her first published poem appeared in the Moose Jaw Times when she was just 13. Her poems were published in a variety of newspapers and publications from that time on, sometimes on a daily basis. Briefly married in 1921, Jaques had to work at a variety of jobs to support herself and her daughter Joyce, but found time to continue writing.

Edna Jaques first volume of poetry was published in 1932. She wrote about everyday themes, particularly of rural life, and she became a popular speaker with women's clubs and church groups across Canada and the United States. In all, 13 volumes of her poetry were published as well as her autobiography Uphill All the Way. She wrote an estimated 3,000 poems in her lifetime, and continued to write well into her senior years. Edna Jaques died in Ontario in 1978.
