Alex Gordon Kuziak was born October 15, 1908 in Saskatchewan. After being raised on his family homestead near Canora, Kuziak completed his high school education in Yorkton and thereafter spent two years in Michigan where he worked in an automobile factory. He returned to Saskatchewan in 1930 to become a teacher at Regina Normal School.

Active with the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) party from its inception in 1933, Kuziak was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly in the June 24, 1948 general election, was re-elected in the 1952, 1956, and 1960 elections, in each instance representing the constituency of Canora for the CCF. He served in the cabinet of the CCF government as minister of the following portfolios: Telephones and Telegraphs, 1952-10-24 to 1953-04-01); Telephones, 1953-04-01 to 1956-07-27; Natural Resources, 1956-07-27 to 1962-11-19; Mineral Resources, 1962-11-19 to 1964-05-22. Upon his appointment to the cabinet, Kuziak became the first person of Ukrainian origin to become a cabinet minister in Canada. Ultimately, he was defeated by Kenneth Gordon Romuld of the Liberal Party in the May 22, 1964 general election that led to Ross Thatcher of the Liberals becoming Premier.. After losing his seat, he became a municipal secretary, retiring in 1973.

Kuziak died May 14, 2010 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
