The Watrous Arts Salon was established in 1967 by the Manitou Chapter of the Eastern Star to give amateur arts and crafts people the opportunity to exhibit their work and receive constructive criticism from judges. It was also an opportunity for the Watrous community to view the exhibits on display and to purchase items offered for sale. The Salon was supported by the Saskatchewan Arts Council and the Department of Culture and Youth.

The show was organized by the Manitou Chapter of the Eastern Star from 1967-1969. From 1970-1981, a group of volunteers took over the organization of the program. The show was held during the week of July 1 every year and consisted of the show as well as seminars presented by well known Saskatchewan artists such as Doris Wall Larson, Norm Dallin, Greg Hardy, Lorna Russell, Elyse St. George, Norman Zepp, Wayne Morgan, David Thauberger, Victor Cicansky, Dorothy Knowles, Paul Fudge, James Ellemers, Lorraine Mallach, David Ross, Hans Herold, Margaret Messer, Rolf Sherick, Menella Todd and W.C. Ziolkoski.

The show averaged approximately 300 exhibits by 135 exhibitors each year and was viewed by over 1500 persons.

Due to larger exhibitions being held by groups such as the Saskatchewan Craft Council and the Saskatchewan Organization of Arts Councils and a declining volunteer base, the Watrous Arts Salon decided to host its last exhibition in 1981.
