In 1874, Letitia Youmans founded the first Canadian Woman's Christian Temperance Union, located in Picton, Prince Edward County (Ontario). While serving as president of the Canadian Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Youmans visited the North-West Territories and facilitated the organization of Unions (local chapters) at Morley, Regina, and Calgary, that would form the basis of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) of the North-West Territories.
