Gladys Lillian Lamb was born on June 20, 1907 in The Pas, Manitoba, as one of eleven children raised by English immigrants Thomas Henry Peacock Lamb (also known as THP Lamb or Ten House-Power Lamb) and Caroline Alice Marks Lamb. She grew up in Moose Lake, Manitoba on the edge of a Cree Indian reservation and wrote about her experiences in Dew Upon the Grass under the name Billie Lamb Allan. The title came from a favourite quotation of her father from the King James version of the Bible: "The King's wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favour is as dew upon the grass." She died on February 4, 2001.

Douglas Russell Alexander was born in 1935 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan and he was initially raised on his parents' homestead located in the area around Choiceland. The family moved to Saskatoon at the start of World War Two. He began working in radio in grade 11 at CKOM-AM in Saskatoon, and in 1959 he moved to Regina where he took a position with CKCK radio. His interest in World War One and World War Two and the military led him to become involved in the annual Remembrance Day celebrations held at the Agridome / Brandt Centre for a number of years. In addition, he participated in the Regina Rotary Club, Regina Exhibition Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Express Musical Theatre Company, Regina Ram football club, and the United Way. Alexander retired from CKCK radio in 1997 and joined Cable Regina (now Access Communications) with whom he remained until his death on November 10, 2019 in Regina.

Doug Alexander and his wife of 60 years Joanna had two daughters.

After the province was founded in 1905, the Alberta Department of Education continued the Department of Education of the previous North-West Territories government which operated under the School Ordinance (North-West Territories Ordinances, 1901, c.29, s.1). In 1922, the Department of Education Act (R.S.A. 1922, c. 16) and the School Act (R.S.A. 1922, c. 51) repealed and superseded the School Ordinance.

The Department of Education was dissolved on May 27, 1999 by Order in Council 243/1999 under the authority of the Government Organization Act (S.A. 1994, c. G–8.5).
