Around 1938, the Town Planning Branch for the Department of Municipal Affairs changed its name to the Municipal Technical Services and Town Planning Branch, which subsequently changed its name to the Community Planning Branch on May 1, 1944.

Authorized on August 10, 1914, the 11th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force recruited from places such as Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba. The battalion mobilized at Camp Valcartier, Quebec before embarking for Great Britain on September 30, 1914. The battalion was redesignated 11th Reserve Infantry Battalion on April 29, 1915. On January 4, 1917 its personnel was absorbed by the new 11th Reserve Battalion (Manitoba), Canadian Expeditionary Force, that subsequently disbanded on October 12, 1917.

Policy, Planning and Evaluation
The Policy, Planning and Evaluation Branch was created in 1983 at the time of a major reorganization that involved forming the new Deptartment of Justice. It provided support to all divisions in the Department and to the Minister in areas of corporate, federal/provincial and inter-agency policy and justice relations with specific emphasis on criminal law policy, family law policy, youth justice policy, and Aboriginal policy. It supports the implementation of criminal, youth and family justice legislative changes and initiatives. The Branch also facilitated program review and evaluation for departmental programs or initiatives, performs statistical analysis and research on behalf of the Department, and provides support to the departmental strategic planning and performance management activities. The branch has been part of Management Services Division, Public Law and Policy Division, and also directly under the Deputy Minister.
Betty Ann Pottruff has been the director of this branch from 1987 to 2003, and executive director from 2003 to 2014. It appears that the branch name changed in about 2013/14 to Strategic Initiatives and Program Support Branch, later Innovation and Strategic Initiatives. It is currently Corporate Initiatives, Performance and Planning.
